“Police didn’t reach the spot on time. This needs to be investigated,” Bengal CM Banerjee asserted during her visit at Bagtoi in Birbhum.

CM Banerjee met the family members of the eight people killed in Birbhum Massacre and announced ₹5 lakh compensation to each and an additional ₹50,000 for the families who lost their children. Additionally, ₹2 lakh would be given to each family to reconstruct homes burnt down in the incident.

In a separate development, West Bengal police recovered 60 locally made unexploded bombs in Margram under Rampurhat on Friday. The incident created panic among the villagers. It is not clear whether there are links between this incident and the massacre that occurred in the neighbouring Bagtoi village.

Speaking to The New Indian, Nagendra Nath Tripathi, SP of Birbhum said, “We have recovered 60 unexpolded bombs, which were locally made.” The bombs were spilnterless and defused immediately, the police confirmed The New Indian on Friday.

“We received a tip off from our Civic volunteers that there were bombs. We have deployed an ASI, 2 Constables and 2 Civic Volunteers at the village for vigilance,” CI of Rampurhat told TNI
