NEW DELHI: FUJIFILM India, a leader in imaging and optical technology, has launched its latest flagship filmmaking camera — the FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA 55 — at the Broadcast India Show 2025, held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.

Designed to deliver cinematic brilliance with unparalleled image depth and color reproduction, the GFX ETERNA 55 marks a new milestone in large-format digital filmmaking.

Revolutionizing Visual Storytelling

The GFX ETERNA 55 is built around Fujifilm’s cutting-edge GFX 102MP CMOS II HS large-format sensor — approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor — measuring 43.8mm x 32.9mm. This makes it the world’s largest large-format sensor for filmmaking cameras as of September 2025. Paired with the powerful X-Processor 5 engine, the camera ensures ultra-fast processing and high-resolution imagery suitable for cinema, OTT, and advertising productions.

The camera supports multiple aspect ratios and cinema formats, including GF (4:3 Open Gate), Premista, 35mm, Anamorphic (35mm), and Super 35, offering filmmakers exceptional versatility. With the included PL Mount Adapter G, it supports a wide range of professional lenses for diverse creative requirements.

Cutting-Edge Imaging and Workflow Tools

The GFX ETERNA 55 comes equipped with the world’s first electronic variable ND filter for large-format sensors, offering seamless adjustments from ND0.6 to ND2.1 in 0.015-stop increments — an industry first. Its Dual Base ISO (ISO 800 and ISO 3200) ensures low noise and superior image clarity, even under extreme lighting conditions.

Built on Fujifilm’s legacy of over 90 years in color science, the camera features 20 Film Simulation modes, including the celebrated ETERNA series that recreates the look of cinematic film. It also allows users to import up to 16 custom LUTs and includes 10 preloaded 3D LUTs for Log footage (F-Log2/F-Log2C), providing filmmakers with greater control over tone and color during post-production.

For professionals seeking flexibility, the GFX ETERNA 55 supports Apple ProRes HQ, 422, and LT, as well as Apple ProRes Proxy for efficient on-set workflows. The camera can record up to 8K/30P 12-bit RAW via HDMI and supports Frame.io Camera to Cloud, enabling direct upload and remote editing collaboration.

Lightweight Design and Professional Usability

Despite its advanced internals, the camera weighs only 2 kg, making it ideal for handheld, drone, or gimbal use. Its ergonomic design caters to solo filmmakers and small crews with:

  • Dual 3-inch side monitors for multi-operator viewing,
  • Multi-function dial to control focus, zoom, iris, and ND filter settings,
  • 5-inch high-brightness touchscreen LCD (up to 2000 nits) for outdoor monitoring,
  • Hot-swap battery system allowing up to 30 minutes of internal power and uninterrupted external battery replacement, and
  • Dual card slots supporting CFExpress Type B and SD cards for high-speed, reliable storage.
