International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12, was established in 1999 by the United Nations and first celebrated in 2000. It aims to spotlight the potential of youth and the challenges they face globally.
This year’s theme for 2025 is “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” emphasizing the power of grassroots-led initiatives in fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The theme highlights how young people are catalysts for sustainable development by leading community-based projects, demanding social justice, and driving innovation worldwide.
Minister’s Vision: Youth as the Pillars of a Viksit Bharat
Mandaviya’s succinct yet powerful tribute encapsulates a broader vision—one where capable youth form the bedrock of a truly empowered India. This vision dovetails with his past calls for youth to serve as “change-makers of today”, not just leaders of tomorrow, and to step into roles that shape India’s future.
As India celebrates its youth today, the call is clear: fostering capability among young leaders is key to building a resilient, self-reliant future.
