New Delhi: The family of Sharmistha Panoli, the Delhi-based law student whose recent arrest sparked widespread debate and support, has broken its silence. Her father, in a strongly worded statement, affirmed that the fight for her release is rooted in legal grounds and not political affiliations.
“We received over 50 calls from Hindu organisations in the past 3 days,” her father said, acknowledging the wave of solidarity that followed Sharmistha’s arrest.
Calling his daughter a “proud Hindu,” he emphasized her deep spiritual connection with the faith.
“Sharmistha worships Maa Saraswati and Maa Lakshmi. Our fight is strictly legal. We are not aligned with any political agenda.”
Sharmistha’s detention, details of which remain under judicial review, saw supporters rallying both online and offline. Several individuals, including student activists and community representatives, even visited her in jail.
“Supporters even went to jail to meet her,” her father confirmed.
Visibly moved by the outpouring of support, he ended with gratitude.
“I am thankful to everyone who supported my daughter. This has shown us we are not alone.”
As legal proceedings continue, Sharmistha’s case is shaping into a larger conversation around faith, justice, and youth activism.
