NEW DELHI: Two murder-accused Rohit Rathore and Nitin Fauji were arrested in the broad daylight killing of Rajput Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in Chandigarh after a 200-plus strong team of Delhi Police swooped down at a liquor shop where the duo was hiding.

The arrest comes barely 24 hours before the BJP is to announce a new chief minister in Rajasthan, who could either be a Jat, SC or Rajput face.

The two accused, Nitin Fauji and Rohit Rathore, were arrested alongside two of their aides, identified as Ranbir Jat and Udham, in a joint raid by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, in tandem with the Rajasthan Police.

The police had received a tip-off from informants who directed them to a liquor shop, stating that both of the accused were hiding inside a room at the Chandigarh liquor shop.

On the other hand, Jaat was arrested by the police on Saturday. According to the police, he was providing logistical support to the assailants.

A police source disclosed details regarding the duo’s escape route stating that Jaat had helped them board a bus to Didwana to escape the police. Following which, the source disclosed that they had hired a taxi to travel to Sujangarh, and then reached Hisar by bus. The police conducted raids in Haryana but they fled. Later the accused reached Chandigarh by train.

“Rohit and Udham were brought to  Delhi before taking them to Jaipur by our team. There were over 1000 CCTV images that were sourced by our team, from Jaipur, Daruhera, Rewari, Hisar, Manali and Chandigarh,” the official said.

Police sources further revealed that both Jaat and Fauji were close friends, who used to study together till 12th standard at Mahendergarh district in Haryana.

On Thursday, the widow of slain Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena President, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, revealed that her family had constantly demanded security from Rajasthan’s Director General of Police and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, after receiving multiple threats to their lives over the phone.

She also stated in the FIR that her husband had informed her about gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra’s gangs plotting to kill him.

Meanwhile, following the death, the Rajput community organised a protest outside the Metro Mas hospital where Gogamedi was brought after the shooting.
