2 Shot Dead in Anti-Terrorist Operation in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Two terrorists of banned terror outfit Lashker-e-Toiba were killed in an anti-terrorist operation in Zakura, in the outskirts of Srinagar city on Saturday. Among the killed terrorists is one who shot dead a J&K Police Head Constable last week in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. His name is Ikhlaq Hajam.

“#Encounter has started at Zakura area of #Srinagar City. Srinagar Police on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted early Saturday morning.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said two pistols were recovered from killed terrorists. One among them was also involved in the killing of Head Constable Ikhlaq Ahmad.

Ali Muhammad (53) – policeman – was shot dead by terrorists in South Kashmir’s Hassanpora Bijbhera on Saturday. Terrorist had fired at Ganie around 5.35pm near his residence, in Anantnag’s Bijbehara area. He was rushed to the Government Medical College in Anantnag where the doctors had declared him dead on arrival.

A senior police officer of District Police Srinagar said that Zakura operation was based on human intelligence. “It was a pint point operation and was executed in minimum possible time,” he said, adding that there was no collateral damage at.
