NEW DELHI: Punjab Cabinet Minister for Education and Information & Public Relations, Harjot Singh Bains, announced on Tuesday that all flood-affected villages in his constituency, Sri Anandpur Sahib, have now regained full road connectivity, power supply, and water supply, bringing relief to residents who were stranded for days.

Bains informed that villagers from Singhpur-Plaasi, who had been living in relief shelters, have begun returning to their homes as floodwaters recede. He added that extensive fogging and disinfectant spraying have been carried out in residential areas to ensure hygiene and prevent the spread of disease.

“Electric poles, wires, and transformers have been repaired, and the Water Supply and Sanitation Department has successfully reconnected pipelines, even using NDRF boats where needed. Today, I can confidently say 100% power and water supply have been restored,” the minister stated.

Highlighting infrastructure upgrades, Bains announced that the damaged wooden bridge at Bela Dhiani will be replaced with a strong motorable bridge to provide long-term safety and better connectivity.

Meanwhile, revenue officers are conducting a special Girdawari exercise in the affected villages. The reports will soon be submitted to the government so that compensation can be disbursed to families impacted by the floods.

The minister, who has been personally overseeing relief operations, acknowledged the collective efforts of AAP volunteers, panchayat members, sarpanches, and youth clubs in assisting affected communities. He also commended medical teams and the Animal Husbandry Department for providing free medical services, distributing fodder, and running vaccination drives for livestock.

“To ensure no family or farmer is left behind, 10 truckloads of fodder have already been supplied, and the distribution of food and essential items continues on a daily basis,” Bains said.

Expressing gratitude, he added, “I heartily thank all those who played a positive role and extended their support to the people of Punjab, especially in my constituency, during these difficult days of natural disaster.”
