Zubair Tried To Wage Civil War: Lakhimpur FIR As Police Seeks Custody

NEW DELHI: Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair had tried to create a civil war kind of situation in the country by putting out a tweet with the help of Twitter India, said the FIR which was registered in UP’s Lakhimpur Kehri in September 2021.

Lakhimpur police have now got the arrest warrant against Zubair and he will be brought to Lakhimpur in connection with the case, said the police.

The copy of the FIR, accessed by The New Indian, states that Zubair “morphed the graphics” of the news content shown by the Sudarshan News Channel on May 14, 2021.

According to Zubair’s tweet, the News Channel showed that the rocket launcher attack was on Al Nawabi Masjid of Madina, however, the FIR says the pic was of a Masjid of Gaza where the actual attack happened.

The FIR further said Zubair, with the help of Twitter Inc and Twitter Communication India Ltd, put out the tweet on May 16, 2021. The FIR says Zubair tried to create a civil war kind of situation in the country by appealing to people to come together and oppose the news channel.

The Lakhimpur police said that they have got the warrant on the court’s direction. Zubair will be produced before the court on July 11. Currently, Zubair is in Sitapur Jail.

On Friday, the Supreme Court granted five days of interim bail in the Sitapur case but he had to remain in Jail in another case by Delhi Police.

A UP Police officer said, at the time when FIR was registered in Lakhimpur he had not been questioned. On Friday, Lakhimpur police moved to a local court and obtained the warrant against Zubair.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of a local journalist Ashish Kumar Katiyar. Zubair was booked under section 153A (promoting enmity between two groups) of the IPC.
