You have no right: Congress hits out at Scindia

Union Civil Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia

Hours after Union Minister and BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia launched an attack on Congress for pressurising the judiciary in Rahul Gandhi’s defamation case, the Grand Old Party hits back, saying that the man who brought down the democratically elected government of Madhya Pradesh has no right to speak on the issue.

Scindia, a former Congressman, launched a sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, alleging the party has been left with no ideology except that of a “traitor” who works against the country.

Scindia attacked the Congress for giving Rahul Gandhi “special treatment” following his conviction in a defamation case and accused the party of pressuring the judiciary and doing everything possible to stay relevant.

“This is now clear that Congress will leave no stone unturned to reach a new low and to play with India’s democracy. They are doing everything to stay politically relevant. This is not a fight for democracy but for an individual. Any criticism of this falls short,” Scindia said.

He also said that Rahul Gandhi is not the first one to be disqualified from the Lok Sabha. “But why this time there is so much hue and cry? I don’t understand why people are wearing black clothes,” Scindia said.

Hitting back at his former party colleague, Congress leader Manish Tewari said, “A man who brought down the democratically elected government in Madhya Pradesh has no right to comment on others and make allegations. Today I won’t turn the pages of history.”

He was referring to the revolt by Scindia in March 2020, which resulted in the fall of the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh.

Slamming Scindia, Congress leader Pawan Khera warned that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should remain “beware” of a man who did not stay loyal to his former party and will also “not be loyal” to them.

Khera said, “When Scindia talks about doing things to stay politically relevant, I can think of his own example. To stay politically relevant, he changed his party, he changed his friends, he changed his loyalties and he is giving us a lecture on how to stay politically relevant.”

“As far as pressuring the judiciary is concerned, it is (Union Law Minister) Kiren Rijiju who keeps issuing threats to the judiciary while the RSS’s Panchjanya writes an article on how the Supreme Court is becoming a tool of anti-nationals, who are trying to pressure the judiciary,” Khera said.

“Who is saying retired judges are anti-nationals? Kiren Rijiju is saying that. So ask Scindia to advise his colleague not to pressure and threaten the judiciary,” the Congress leader asked.

Khera also hits out at Scindia for his dig at the Gandhis that some people are “first-class citizens” for the Congress, saying a man who wants to be called a “Maharaj” in free, independent India is talking about this. “He (Scindia) wants to be called and treated like a first-class citizen. Ask him to read the history of his own empire,” Khera said.

“We would like to advise the BJP, please beware of the man who, despite attaining political heights under the Congress party, did not stay loyal to the Congress party, he will not be loyal to you,” the Congress leader warned.
