Woman nabbed at IGI Airport for gold smuggling worth 35 lakhs

New Delhi – A US citizen was apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Wednesday for attempting to smuggle gold and jewellery worth Rs 35 lakh concealed in her undergarments.

The woman, identified as Mrs Farah Deeko Mohamed, was intercepted during pre-embarkation security checks at Terminal 3 of the airport. CISF personnel deployed at the women’s frisking booth detected five gold bars, each weighing 50 grams, and jewellery weighing about 150 grams, all concealed in her undergarments.

Mrs Mohamed had arrived from Nairobi on Air India flight No. AI 962 and was further bound for Hyderabad by flight No. AI560. In an attempt to evade detection, she discreetly offered gold to the CISF personnel in exchange for allowing her to proceed with the gold. However, the CISF personnel rejected the bribe and promptly apprehended her.

The matter was immediately reported to senior officers of CISF and the Customs officials. The passenger, along with the recovered gold and jewellery worth approximately Rs 35 lakh were handed over to the Customs officials for further action.

The incident underscores the vigilance of CISF personnel in preventing smuggling attempts at the airport and upholding security protocols.
