Why Is BJP Protecting Bagga, Asks AAP’s Atishi

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing it of going all out to protect Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga.

“Why is the Delhi and the Haryana Police trying to protect Tajinder Singh Bagga,” Atishi asked. “Delhi & Haryana Police’s illegal action to prevent the arrest of Tajinder Bagga exposes BJP’s real face. BJP can go to any length to protect its goons, rioters and thugs. BJP left no stone unturned to protect bona fide goon and hate-monger Tajinder Bagga,” she added.

“He (Bagga) even approached the High Court, which I must outline, deals with the cases of Punjab and Haryana, and sought for the summons to be cancelled. But, the High Court turned down his plea and asked him to appear. When he did not appear even after that, the Punjab Police had no option but to seek permission from Delhi Police as per protocols, and go and arrest him,” she said.

“BJP’s false claims of crediting his arrest to politics is like a joke. BJP thinks that everyone is as bigoted and deranged like it is that they will use the state machinery for their benefit. BJP has a history of manhandling the state machinery, be it ED, Income Tax raids on opposition leaders before elections, be it illegal custody of leaders, NIA summons and any other possible trick in the book. This is BJP’s modus operandi, not AAP’s. If a government tries to work fairly, the BJP thinks they’re working in bad faith. This is not an action of revenge or vendetta but a due legal process that was impending for long,” Saurabh Bhardwaj, AAP MLA from Delhi’s Greater Kailash, added.

A high-voltage political drama unfolded in the national capital after a team of Punjab Police arrested Delhi BJP spokesperson Bagga on Friday for statements against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Bagga was arrested from his residence in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area, a month after he was booked in Mohali for his remarks against Kejriwal over the latter’s views on the ‘The Kashmir Files’ movie.

Meanwhile, Punjab Police said that a fresh case has been registered against Bagga at the Cyber police station of Mohali and he was wanted by the police.

However, the cavalcade taking the BJP leader, who has been highly critical of Kejriwal on social media, was stopped in Kurukshetra in BJP-ruled Haryana en route to Mohali.
