WATCH | Centre’s priority protection of farmers and consumers: Maha Agri min on Onion procurement

In a significant move, the Indian government has decided to procure a massive 5 lakh tons of onions at a fixed rate of 2,410 rupees per quintal. This decision aims to benefit consumers by offering onions at just Rs. 25 per kg. Maharashtra’s Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde praised the procurement drive as ‘historic.’ To bolster local availability, a 40% export duty on onions was imposed last week. Overall, this decision has been made to safeguard the interests of both farmers and consumers, he added.
