NEW DELHI: Days ahead of the winter session of Parliament, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the Bill to repeal the three farm laws in the country.

In his address to the nation on November 19, Modi said, “The farm laws were meant to strengthen the small farmers. But despite several attempts to explain the benefits to the farmers, we have failed. On the occasion of Gurupurab, the government has decided to repeal the three farm laws.”
“Today I have come to tell you that we have decided to withdraw the three agricultural laws. In the Parliament session starting later this month, we will complete the constitutional process to repeal these laws,” he added. He also urged the protesting farmers to go back to their homes.
Notably, the decision has come ahead of the assembly elections in five states early next year. Hundreds of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh have been camping at the three borders of Delhi demanding withdrawal of the three farm laws and ensuring MSP of their crops since November 26 last year.
The protesting farmers, despite announcement by the Prime Minister, have not left the protesting sites saying they would go back only after the government repeals the three farm laws and also ensures MSP of their crops. ALSO READ: Gautam Gambhir Gets ISIS Kashmir Threat, Writes To Delhi Police
