U’khand Becomes First State To Implement NEP, Starts Bal Vatika Pre-primary Schools

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand has become the first state in India to start ‘Bal Vatika’ according to the centre’s New Education Policy (NEP) after Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the implementation of the policy on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after inaugurating a ‘Bal Vatika’ Center in Nunurkheda of Dehradun said, “Uttarakhand has become the first stage of the country to implement the NEP under the vision and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We are going to establish new benchmarks and become the best state when it comes to parting education and Sanatan Indian values to our children. The new policy incorporates Indian values along with learning of the modern world.”

Under the NEP, children in these ‘Bal Vatika’ will receive education in Sanskrit, Vedas and Puranas along with other activities which involve learning while being playful. The vatikas will admit children from the age group of 3-6 years.

The state education department has named the pre-primary classes Bal Vatika.

In the first phase, Bal Vatikas have started functioning in more than 5000 Anganwadi centres in primary schools across the state.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has already prepared three handbooks for Anganwadi workers and teachers which include health for children, dialogue and creation.

A total of 4447 Anganwadi centres are running in the primary school premises across 13 districts of the hill state where students will be prepared for class one by starting classes from pre-primary in these Bal Vatika.

However, a total of 20067 Anganwadi centres are approved in the state of which 20017 centres are being operated where 14555 Anganwadi workers are posted.

Apart from this, 14249 assistants and 4941 mini Anganwadi workers are appointed in the centres.
