NEW DELHI: An encounter broke out on Monday evening between terrorists and a joint team of security forces in the forest area of Gudar, Kulgam district of South Kashmir. The operation, launched on specific intelligence inputs, is still underway.
According to security officials, the gunfight began when the joint team of Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF established contact with hiding terrorists in the dense forest belt. During the initial exchange of fire, one Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained injuries.
Sources later confirmed that two terrorists have been killed so far in the ongoing encounter. Among them, one has been identified as Amir Ahmad Dar, son of Bashir Ahmad Dar, resident of Darmdoora Keegam, Shopian, who had been active in militant ranks since September 28, 2023.
Tragically, two soldiers of the Army also lost their lives during the fierce exchange of fire.
Security forces have cordoned off the area, and intermittent firing is still being reported as the operation continues to flush out any remaining militants. The recovery of weapons and further identification of the second slain terrorist are awaited.
Officials stated that more details will be shared once the encounter concludes.
