Two Dead, 6 Injured After Under Construction Bridge Collapses In Rudraprayag

DEHRADUN: Two died and six were injured on Wednesday morning after an under-construction bridge collapsed in Rudraprayag.

The incident occurred at around 9 am after which a team of the State Disaster Response Force rushed to the spot along with district police and administration officials.

“The incident happened between Sirobgarh and Narkota at Rishikesh-Badrinath highway. Four workers were rescued from the debris and are being treated in the hospital in Rudraprayag while two lost their lives,” said Ayush Agarwal, superintendent of police, Rudraprayag district.

The deceased persons were identified as 20-year-old Kanhaiya from Farrukhabad of Uttar Pradesh and Pankaj (20) from Gujarpur of UP.

The four injured have been identified as Raghuveer, Anil from Faizanpur of UP, Ramu from Gujarpur of UP and Bhura, a resident of Bihar.

Meanwhile, the state meteorological department has already issued a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in seven districts – Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Champawat, Nainital, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Haridwar for today.

Officials have urged people to avoid travel and step outside their homes until necessary. Schools in many districts, where warnings have been issued, have been closed for a day.
