Two IPS officers held on corruption charges in Bihar.

The Bihar Special Vigilance Unit has taken cognisance of a disproportionate assets case against two Indian Police Service officers (IPS) in Bihar on charges of criminal conspiracy and amassing disproportionate assets.

Gaya’s former SSP Aditya Kumar and Purnia’s SP Daya Shankar were suspended on Wednesday for amassing disproportionate wealth. A notification related to this has been issued by the Home Department.

Aditya Kumar, SSP of Gaya was involved in the case of forgery from DGP and has been suspended by the government. The raids were conducted on the premises of SP Dayashankar of Purnia in the disproportionate assets case. SP Daya Shankar had faced charges of disproportionate assets before too.

Bihar SVU found Rs 2.96 lakh cash and jewelry worth Rs 28 lakh from Daya Shankar’s residence in Purnia and Rs 1.52 lakh cash from his two flats and in Patna.

According to SVU reports, after the appointment of IPS Daya Shankar, his legal income from 2016 till now is Rs 1 crore 9 lakh 47 thousand 691 rupees.

Aditya Kumar was arrested by the economic offences unit of Bihar after his associate made calls to the state director general of police SK Singhal posing as the Patna high court chief justice Sanjay Karol and advised Singhal to scrap a case registered against Kumar.

The investigating EOW Wing on October 15 has lodged cases against IPS officer Aditya Kumar and his accomplice under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology (IT) Act. IPS officer Aditya Kumar has been attached to the headquarters in the suspension period.

In the letter issued in this regard, it has been said that Section 13(1) (a) and (b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 have been levelled against Daya Shankar.
