TMC, Congress to focus on Moitra’s expulsion in cash for query scandal

Mahua Moitra has now approached the Supreme Court

KOLKATA: With the parliament’s winter session beginning from Monday, the Trinamool Congress has disclosed that they will discuss Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra’s future in the parliament after the ethics committee recommended her expulsion, following referral to the CBI probe.

Party sources state, “Reports of Parliamentary committees should not be made public so brazenly until tabled on the floor of the House. However, the latest report of the Ethics Committee is already exposed to the media. Few MPs are under suspension and we are seeing reports in the media that one member who belongs to our party is ‘going to be expelled shortly’.”

Moitra’s cash-for-query scandal report is slated to be submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on the first day of the legislative assembly.

The All Party meeting prior to the winter session had also witnessed the TMC raised the matter. “A discussion on the floor of the House may be held on this issue. Only after this discussion is had, does the House have the right to take its decision,” the Mamata Banerjee-led party had stated during the meeting.

According to Congress sources, sources from the Grand Old Party said that they will be discussing the matter of Moitra on the first day of the winter session.

From the middle of October, the TMC had maintained pin drop silence but following West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee statement in a mega meet on November 24, the narrative has evolved into Moitra’s popularity heightening following the possibility of her expulsion. Presently, the TMC top brass has appointed Moitra as the district president of Krishnanagar district.

The political storm commenced after BJP’s Nishikant Dubey levied charges against Moitra that she provided Darshan Hiranandani and the Hiranandani Conglomerate with access to her Lok Sabha website login credentials for personal gain. He considers these allegations to be the most serious of the charges against her.

The winter session is slated to have 15 sittings between December 4 to 22, where crucial bills are also slated to be passed.
