Terrorist Involved In Rajni Bala’s Murder Shot Dead

SRINAGAR: In a major development, Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday shot dead two terrorists. The terrorists were involved in the murder of Rajni Bala in the Kulgam district of south Kashmir last month.

Bala, the 36-year-old teacher from Jammu, was shot dead on campus in Kulgam’s Gopalpora amid a series of targeted attacks on civilians and police personnel.

Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the security forces have neutralised two terrorists in the Mishipora area of Kulgam. The two were behind the killing of the school teacher in the Gopalpora area of Kulgam on May 31.

“Terrorists neutralised in Kulgam encounter today were involved in the killing of school teacher Rajni Bal,” IGP Kumar said.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Police had said that an encounter had resumed at the Mishipora area of Kulgam where terrorists were believed to be trapped. A cordon and search operation had been underway in the area since Tuesday.

Police said that the operation against Bala’s killer was halted on Tuesday night and resumed on Wednesday morning. They added a joint cordon and the search operation was separately launched following information regarding the presence of terrorists in Shopian.

On Wednesday, a terrorist who was involved in the killing of a Bank Manager at Kulgam was shot dead by security forces in the Shopian district of south Kashmir. The 26-year-old bank employee from Rajasthan was shot dead by terrorists inside his office on June 2 in Kulgam.

Bala was shot dead by terrorists outside the school in Kulgam on May 31. Her husband Raj Kumar, who is also a teacher in Kulgam, was today transferred to Jammu.

“The services of Raj Kumar Attri, teacher BMS Mirhama, Kulgam are hereby placed at the disposal of Director, School Education Jammu for further suitable adjustment in district Samba,” an order issued by J&K Government stated.

Raj Kumar had asked the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha during the latter’s visit to his home that he may be transferred to Jammu.

Meanwhile, another encounter started today between security forces and terrorists at Hangalgund in the Kokernag area of Anantnag, said the police. Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists are trapped in the Kokernag area, said IGP Kumar.

The security forces and the Pulwama Police, in a joint operation, averted a major tragedy by recovering a 15 kg IED. The IED was planted by terrorists in village Armullah, Litter, in Pulwama district.
