Stalin expressed his concern about the proposed delimitation process based on the 2026 census, calling it dangerous for southern states

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called for an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the issue of delimitation, which is a major concern for the state.

He warned that Tamil Nadu is at a critical point where it must raise its voice to protect its rights.

Stalin invited 40 political parties registered with the Election Commission to the meeting, where they will discuss how delimitation, based on population data, could negatively affect the state.

He described the situation as a “sword hanging over Tamil Nadu,” as it could result in the state losing eight Members of Parliament (MPs) and reduce its representation in the Parliament.

Stalin explained that Tamil Nadu’s successful family planning policies had put the state at a disadvantage.

He argued that if the population census is used for delimitation, Tamil Nadu’s efforts in controlling its population would cost the state in terms of political representation.

Apart from delimitation, the meeting will also focus on the three-language policy and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Stalin accused the central government of pushing for policies that could reignite language-related conflicts.

He assured that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party would strongly resist such attempts.

Stalin expressed his concern about the proposed delimitation process based on the 2026 census, calling it dangerous for southern states like Tamil Nadu.

He said that if Tamil Nadu loses MPs because of its successful population control, it would reduce the state’s voice in Parliament.

He urged all political parties to come together and protect Tamil Nadu’s representation, calling for unity beyond party lines to safeguard the future of the state.
