NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during his official visit to the United Kingdom, encountered a serious security breach on March 5, 2025, outside Chatham House in London. The incident unfolded as a Khalistani extremist charged at Jaishankar’s convoy, tearing the Indian national flag in a provocative act that has drawn widespread condemnation.

The breach occurred after Jaishankar concluded a discussion at Chatham House, a prominent think tank. As he exited the venue, a man aggressively approached his car and desecrated the Tricolor in the presence of London police officers. Videos circulating online captured the shocking moment, showing the protester tearing the flag while others chanted pro-Khalistani slogans. The police, initially hesitant, later detained the individual along with other protesters.

In a statement, the MEA said, “We deplore the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists. We expect the host government to fully live up to their diplomatic obligations.”
