While Shreyas Iyer is known for his cool-headedness on the field, he revealed that things were quite different during the 2025 Champions Trophy.
“The last time I cried properly was during the first practice session of the Champions Trophy,” he admitted.
“I couldn’t bat well in the nets. I was angry and frustrated.”
Iyer had performed well in the England series before the tournament, and expected to carry that form into the Champions Trophy. However, things didn’t go according to plan.
“But the conditions in Dubai were very different,” he said. “Adapting on the first day itself was quite hard. When the session ended, I wanted to do some extra batting — but I couldn’t. That’s what made me really angry, and I broke down.”
This glimpse into Iyer’s emotional side has only made fans love him more — showing that even top athletes go through mental struggles, especially when expectations are sky-high.
Family First, Always
The IPL-winning captain also shared heartwarming details about his close bond with his parents.
“I’m very close to my family. My mom and dad still come and drop me at the airport whenever I’m travelling,” Iyer smiled.
“In the beginning, I used to tell them to stay back and rest at home. But now I’ve realised that they enjoy being there. And I’m totally fine with it,” he added.
Tonight, Shreyas Iyer will return to the field, leading Punjab Kings against Chennai Super Kings at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. The match begins at 7:30 pm.
Shreyas Iyer Tears might have started in Dubai, but his strength, resilience, and love for the game shine brighter than ever in IPL 2025.
