Sena Leader Raut Skips ED Summons, Asks For Another Date

MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday skipped the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons and sought another date for questioning in connection with the Pravin Raut and Patra Chawl land grab case.

According to ED officials, Raut, who is a Rajya Sabha member, has sent his lawyer informing the financial probe agency that he needs more time to appear before the agency.

The financial probe agency is yet to announce another date for questioning Raut.

The ED has summoned Raut for questioning in connection with the Patra Chawl land grab case and has asked him to appear before it on Tuesday at its Mumbai office.

On Monday, after the ED summons, Raut took to Twitter and wrote, “I just came to know that the ED has summoned me. Good! There are big political developments in Maharashtra. We, Balasaheb’s Shivsainiks are fighting a big battle. This is a conspiracy to stop me. Even if you behead me, I won’t take the Guwahati route. Arrest me! Jai Hind!”

Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed the ED for the summons to her party colleague and said, “ED presents biggest devotion to BJP.”

Earlier, the ED had attached property worth Rs 9 crore related to Sanjay Raut’s ‘aide’ Pravin Raut and assets, worth around Rs 2 crore, belonging to Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha in the Rs 1,034-crore Patra Chawl land scam case.

The financial probe agency had filed a charge sheet in a money laundering case against Pravin Raut.
