SC decision on Article 370 will augment Centre & UT to make J&K more prosperous: J&K LG

JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Tuesday said that the efforts of the government to achieve a “new and developed Jammu and Kashmir” would be further augmented, following the Supreme Court’s verdict upholding the abrogation of Article 370.

“The Supreme Court gave its verdict (on Article 370) yesterday and made it clear that the resolution passed by the Parliament (in August 2019) for the benefit of the people of J&K was completely Constitutional. I welcome the judgement which is bound to further strengthen the roots of unity and integrity of the nation,” Sinha said on Wednesday, addressing a function organised to pay tribute to Zorawar Singh, a military General of Dogra Rajput ruler Gulab Singh who achieved martyrdom in 1842.

“Efforts will be amplified to provide justice to all, particularly those deprived of their constitutional rights for decades,” the LG said.

“The verdict will pave the way for a new spree of social and economic development in J&K which is witnessing a wave of positive change. People are living a normal life and aspiring to reap the benefits of peace. We will make all out efforts to realise the dreams of the Prime Minister of a new and developed J&K. Strikes and stone-pelting have been relegated to the past,” he said.

While talking about the tourism sector, the LG said “New J&K is known for tourism, not terrorism. The number of tourists by November has already crossed two crore.”

LG attended the commemorative event organized by General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust, and J&K Ex-Services League and lauded their efforts to highlight the contribution of General Zorawar Singh in India’s history.

“The history of great personalities like General Zorawar Singh, Brig Rajinder Singh, and Maqbool Sherwani will be taught to the students in schools of J&K. Their life, courage, and conquest is a lesson about patriotism, discipline and self-confidence and it will inspire students to achieve the goal of making India a developed nation,” LG Sinha said.
