RRR, The Elephant Whisperer: India shines at Oscars. Wins big on awards night

Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR has won the Oscar in the Best Song category. It had to beat the other nominees in the category which included Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), Hold My Hand (Top Gun Maverick), Lift Me Up (Black Panther Wakanda Forever), and This is a Life (Everything Everywhere All at Once). Music director MM Keeravaani accepted the award with a Namaste. The film also had a live performance at the event.

Actor Deepika Padukone, who was one of the Oscar presenters this year, announced the Live Performance with Lauren Gottlieb dancing to RRR’s Naatu Naatu. While introducing the song to the audience, Padukone said that the film represents the reel-life friendship between two real-life freedom fighters. The song was performed in Telugu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined in the celebrations and sent a congratulatory message to the team of RRR. “Exceptional! The popularity of ‘Naatu Naatu’ is global. It will be a song that will be remembered for years to come. Congratulations to @mmkeeravaani, @boselyricist and the entire team for this prestigious honour. PM @narendramodi congratulate RRR team as “Natu Natu” becomes the first Indian song to bag an Oscar,” he tweeted.
