Punjab Intelligence Asked Police To Maintain Law And Order In Wake Of 2 Attempted Alleged Sacrilege Incidents

Two Gurudwara Where Sacrilege case happened

CHANDIGARH: With the back to back two alleged incidents of sacrilege in different cities of Punjab, the Punjab Police Intelligence department had issued an advisory to all the officials of the Punjab Police to hold adequate vigil and security arrangements in place to control law and order in the state.

In an advisory sent on December 19, the Additional Director General of Police, (ADGP) to all the senior officials of the Punjab Police, in regard to two cases of alleged sacrilege in Amritsar and Kapurthala on December 18 and December 19. It was stated that the leaders or workers of various Sikh organisations and the Sikh community may come into fury and surge the atmosphere, which may lead to a serious law and order situation in the state.

“They may also hold protests, etc. In consideration of the above circumstances, adequate vigil and security arrangements should be put in place,” the advisory read.

It asked the police officials to take all security measures to maintain peace with law and order in the state.

On December 18, an incident of sacrilege was reported inside the Amritsar’s Golden Temple’s sanctum sanctorum where a youth was beaten to death by a mob after an alleged sacrilege attempt. On December 19, an unknown person entered inside the premises of Gurdwara Sahib, in Kapurthala and tried to remove the Chola Sahib of Nishan Sahib at the said Gurdwara Sahib.

Later, 500/550 residents of nearby villages of Nizampur led by Amarjit Singh (Granthi Singh) started a dharna at Kapurthala-Subhanpur Road demanding justice in all Sacrilege cases. Afterward, suddenly some unknown Sikh protestors lost their control and forcibly entered the said Gurdwara Sahib and attacked the accused with swords and Barshas. As a result, the accused inflicted serious injuries.

The youth succumbed to the injuries.
