NEW DELHI: Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of freedom fighters and their families, the Punjab Government has increased the monthly pension for freedom fighters from ₹9,400 to ₹11,000.

Freedom Fighters Minister Mohinder Bhagat said the decision, taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is aimed at honouring the supreme sacrifices of those who fought for India’s independence. “This step has further enhanced the dignity and respect of these families. The Punjab Government stands shoulder to shoulder with freedom fighters and their dependents at all times,” he said.

Bhagat emphasized that serving and honouring freedom fighters is the foremost duty of the state. “These great sons of the soil, who contributed immensely to the freedom struggle, are a source of inspiration for all of us. Paying them respect is a matter of pride,” he added.

Highlighting Punjab’s role in India’s freedom movement, the Minister noted that Punjabis made an unparalleled contribution in resisting colonial rule. “It was their courage and sacrifices that secured our nation’s independence. Their legacy will continue to inspire patriotism and love for the country among generations to come,” he remarked.

The Mann government has repeatedly stressed its focus on welfare schemes for freedom fighters and their families, ensuring they receive recognition and support for their invaluable contribution to the nation.
