Chandigarh: In a major crackdown against corruption and drug-related networks, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has filed a 45,000-page chargesheet against former state cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
The comprehensive investigation, spanning multiple states, involved raids at 15 locations linked to Majithia. Authorities have uncovered 30 immovable properties, 10 vehicles, and 15 companies or firms connected to illegal assets accumulated during his tenure as minister. According to the chargesheet, Majithia’s wealth exceeded his known sources of income by nearly 1,200%, amounting to an estimated ₹700 crore.
The chargesheet, now presented in court with substantial evidence, underscores the government’s commitment to eradicating the nexus between political power and drug trafficking. Officials assert that the action sends a strong signal: in Punjab, the law will prevail over influence, and no individual, regardless of their political stature, is above justice.
The move has garnered widespread public support, with citizens praising the government’s tough stance against corruption and drug networks. Parents expressed relief at seeing alleged drug lords being held accountable, while young people hailed the action as a step toward safeguarding Punjab’s future.
The opposition, which had previously criticized similar initiatives as political vendettas, now faces scrutiny as the chargesheet presents detailed evidence against Majithia. Analysts suggest that this marks the end of the era of mafia-protected politics in the state, signaling the start of a new chapter of accountability and transparent governance.
With this decisive action, the Bhagwant Mann government reinforces its promise of prioritizing law, public safety, and social accountability. Observers believe that Punjab is moving toward a future where governance is synonymous with service, and the law applies equally to all citizens.
