NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann paid his respects at the Sikh holy site of Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on the second day of Shaheedi Jor Mel, on Wednesday.

The sombre occasion marks the martyrdom of Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh along with Mata Gujri ji. Mann highlighted that the sacred land was not just a source of inspiration for the Sikh community but the world at large.

“Martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh along with Mata Gujri ji in this pious land had since ages inspired Punjabis to fight against injustice, tyranny and oppression,” he said.

The Punjab CM marked that the martyrs who had lost their lives at extremely tender ages, had displayed immense courage while fighting against the Mughal governor, Wazir Khan. He said, “The sahibzadas had inherited the traits of valour and selfless service from Dashmesh Pitaah, who fought relentlessly for the sake of humanity.”

“Today devotees from across the globe have converged here to pay glowing tributes to Chotte Sahibzadas for their unparalleled sacrifice in the history of the world,” the Punjab CM added.

Mann also highlighted that he was blessed to have received the opportunity to serve the state without leaving any stone unturned. “The state government is following the footsteps of great Sikh Gurus and martyrs to ensure the well being of every section of the society,” he said.

Both of Sikh Guru Gobind Singh’s sons have been acknowledged by the religious community as the youngest martyrs in the country’s history when they fought valiantly at Anandapur.

The CM highlighted that he had requested former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan to pay tributes to the chhota sahibzadas during his term as a member of Parliament.

During the press briefing, he highlighted that younger generations had to be made aware of their sacrifice to be more selfless in their upkeep.
