Police Searches Shraddha’s Head In Pond, Aaftab’s Narco Test Likely on Monday

Accused Aaftab Amin met Shraddha through dating app Bumble.

Getting no further leads in collection of evidences in Shraddha Walker murder case, the Delhi Police on Sunday conducted searches for the victim’s head in a pond in Maidan Garhi area in the national capital.

The police sources said that the investigators have done the preparations to conduct Narco analysis test on Aaftab Amin Poonawala in a Delhi hospital on Monday.

According to police sources, during interrogation, Aaftab is constantly changing statements due to which the investigators were facing challenges. They have not yet been able to recover the weapon of crime which was used to butcher Shraddha.

The Police has also not been able to recover either the victim’s or Aaftab’s blood soaked clothes or other forensic evidences through which police could make it a water tight case.

The 13 body parts which have been recovered so far will have to be tested to ascertain that they are Shraddha’s.  The DNA  of those parts are awaited. Meanwhile, the investigation is gradually moving ahead, said a police source.

On Sunday, a team of Delhi police searched Shraddha’s head in a pond in Madian Garhi in South Delhi. The pond is located near Chattarpur jungle where he allegedly dumped the other body parts of Shraddha.

The team cleared the water of the pond but till late night it did not get any lead.

The sources said the police have also made all preparations to conduct Narco analysis test on Aaftab on Monday. A set of doctors will do the narco test at Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.

A police officer told The New Indian the Narco test is done depending on the physical and mental condition of the accused. The doctors will have to conduct certain tests and once they are given a go ahead, then only the serum will be given to him, said the officer.

Narco test is a kind of a lie detector test where the accused is injected with a serum called sodium pentothal. This chemical sedates the accused through which he gets neutralised and is believed to speak the truth.

Aaftab is in five days police custody, which is ending on Tuesday.

Besides, at least four different teams of Delhi Police are camping in Maharashtra, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh where Shraddha and Aaftab stayed and spent their time together.

A team of Delhi Police on Saturday and Sunday visited the house owner of the couple’s accommodation in Vasai, Mumbai where the duo stayed for over a year. The police team got to know that they had told the owner that they were a couple. The police team has recorded the statement of the house owner.

According to police officials in Mumbai and Delhi, Shraddha and Aaftab came in contact through dating app Bumble in 2019 when she was working at a call centre in Malad.

The parents of Shraddha, who is a Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) graduate, were against their relationship, but she rebelled and eloped with Aaftab to Delhi. Mostly they lived in Mumbai but in May this year, they shifted to Delhi.

Their relationship gone soar and Aaftab strangled Shraddha following a tiff on May 18 in Delhi’s Mehrauli rented accomodation. With the calmness of a professional killer, Aftab first put the dead body in the bathroom and waited for the night to think about what should be done for its disposal.

After spending the night with Shraddha’s corpse, Aftab bought a refrigerator and an iron saw on May 19. With the precision of a chef, Aftab then chopped the body parts into 35 pieces. Each body part was wrapped separately in black plastic bags. He kept the bags in the refrigerator.

The incident came to light when her father Vikas Madan lodged a missing person report at Mehrauli police station on November 8 after her phone went unreachable for a few days.
