In a major announcement, World Economic Forum executive chairman Klaus Schwab said that PM Narendra Modi’s leadership is critical in this fractured world. Schwab also said that India’s G20 presidency comes at a crucial time.

“India’s G20 presidency comes at a crucial time, Prime Minister Modi’s leadership is critical in this fractured world,” Schwab said during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023, which is being held at a time when the world is going through multiple crises that deepen divisions and fragment the geopolitical landscape.

Schwab’s remarks are significant because they demonstrate how the world recognises PM Modi’s leadership qualities. It also demonstrated India’s growing importance in the global order.

“India’s G20 presidency comes at a crucial time, Prime Minister Modi’s leadership is critical in this fractured world,” Schwab said.

“I had the pleasure of meeting the Indian ministerial delegation and many of its top business leaders,” Schwab said. “I commend the country’s decisive action on the climate case for renewables, its contribution to the global healthcare ecosystem, the focus on an economic model for women-led development, and its leadership on digital public infrastructure.”

“India remains a bright spot amid global geoeconomic and geopolitical crises,” he said.

Highlighting India’s long association with the Forum, Schwab said, “World Economic Forum shares a 38-year collaborative history with India and looks forward to continued cooperation.”

“As part of its G20 presidency, India aims to promote just and equitable growth while also making significant progress on the most pressing domestic challenges,” he said.
