PM Modi kickstarts US visit with meetings with bizmen, civil society

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his highly-stake visit to the United States with a series of important meetings, conversing with prominent personalities from diverse fields in New York on Wednesday.

Apart from celebrity billionaire Elon Musk, he also met renowned American mathematician and intellectual, Professor Nicholas Taleb, noted astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Nobel winner economist Paul Romer, investor Ray Dalio, Buddhist scholar Padma Shri Robert AF Therman among others.

During his meeting, PM Prime Minister acknowledged Prof. Taleb’s interest in India’s progress and highlighted the nation’s focus on fostering entrepreneurship and risk-taking among its youth.

PM Modi’s engagement with Professor Robert Thurman revolved around the potential of Buddhist values to address global challenges and India’s efforts to preserve its rich Buddhist heritage.

He discussed India’s economic reforms and inviting further investment during his one-to-one meeting with Ray Dalio, a prominent American investor and co-founder of Bridgewater Associates. On his part, Dalio expressed confidence in PM Modi’s transformative leadership, acknowledging India’s immense potential and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Discussions between PM Modi and Nobel laureate Professor Paul Romer focused on India’s digital journey, including the innovative use of Aadhaar and initiatives for urban development. They explored avenues for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

During his meeting with Neil deGrasse Tyson, a distinguished American astrophysicist and science communicator, PM Modi discussed the promotion of scientific temperament among youth and India’s advancements in the space sector. They deliberated on potential partnerships between the private sector, academia, and India’s recently launched National Space Policy.

Prime Minister Modi’s US visit is set to witness engagements with numerous such eminent personalities, covering a wide array of domains.

On Wednesday, he will lead a Yoga session at the United Nations (UN) headquarters on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga.

Apart from bilateral talks with President Joe Biden and senior officials from his administration, PM Modi will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora.

Many important deals in the sphere of defence, science and technology, and critical and emerging technology are expected to be signed between India and the US during PM Modi’s three day visit.
