PM Modi announces investments of Rs 11,600 crore in Assam

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Assam, where he laid the foundation stone for projects totalling Rs 11,600 crores. The significant public rally held at Guwahati’s Khanapara Veterinary College Field witnessed the inauguration of projects aimed at fostering development and connectivity.

PM Modi inaugurated the Maa Kamakhya Divyalok Pariyojana, a Rs 500 crore project, and a Rs 831 crore initiative to upgrade Guwahati’s Nehru Stadium to FIFA standards.

During his address, he emphasised the projects’ pivotal role in strengthening Assam’s connectivity with South Asian countries and stated, “These projects will increase employment opportunities in the tourism sector, expand the role of Assam in the medical and healthcare sector, and provide new opportunities for sporting talent in Assam.”

One of the highlighted projects is the Rs 831 crore refurbishment of Nehru Stadium, aligning it with FIFA standards. The Prime Minister underscored the potential of these ventures to generate employment, particularly in tourism and sports.

Expressing gratitude to the residents of Assam and the entire Northeast region, PM Modi acknowledged the positive impact these initiatives would have on the local economy.

The New Indian captured public sentiments from the ground during the rally. A resident, Abdul, praised Modi’s efforts against corruption, stating, “The progress our country is experiencing today is unprecedented.”

Talking about the INDI Alliance he said, “The alliance formed by various parties, known as the INDI Alliance, has accumulated vast wealth from the funds meant for the poor, indulging in corruption. When Modi orders raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), it unveils billions hidden by these individuals. Modi has undertaken substantial efforts against corruption.”

A group of women expressed their excitement, stating, “PM Modi has done significant work for Assam and India; he has also developed the Kamakhya Mandir and facilitated the construction of the Ram Mandir.”

PM Modi opened his speech at the mega public rally in Assamese. “Aponalok xokoluke mor antorik xubhessa gyapon korilu (I extend my heartiest greetings to you),” he said, drawing loud cheers from the audience.

The electrifying atmosphere during the rally demonstrated the widespread enthusiasm for Modi’s visit to Guwahati. The illuminated 1,00,000 diyas, a symbol of the people’s love and support, left a lasting impression on him.

Expressing gratitude, the PM added, “I saw on TV how you lit up lakhs of diyas upon my arrival. Your love and your blessings are dear to me. Your love gives me energy to carry on and work more.”
