PM Modi, Amit Shah to address Kerala BJP in January to kick off 2024 Lok Sabha campaign

PM Modi is slated to address the party workers in Kerala in January

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to address multiple programmes of the National Democratic Alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party in January in Kerala.

BJP state President K Surendran confirmed PM Modi’s visit during a press conference at the party headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, on Saturday. The prime minister’s address will be followed by Home Minister Amit Shah, party President JP Nadda, and other Cabinet ministers’ addresses to party workers, state leaders, church leaders and community leaders.

“The front leaders and party workers will hold foot marches in all the Lok Sabha constituencies in the state and reach out to the people explaining to them the various welfare and government schemes of the central government. There is going to be a major change in favour of the BJP government in Kerala,” said Surendran.

The visit of the top leadership in the state is being viewed as an attempt to make inroads into the southern state where it has yet to have a single MP elected. The saffron party’s aggressive campaign in the state will also kick off their Lok Sabha election trail.

As per sources, the BJP has earmarked 6 Lok Sabha constituencies of the 20 constituencies where the party is hoping to make an impact according to the party’s internal survey. However, a senior party leader refuted the claim, stating that the party hopes to concentrate on all the 20 Lok Sabha seats to double their vote share in the assembly.

The BJP hopes that there will be a change in the voting preferences as far as the Christian community is concerned, following the Israel-Palestine conflict. The saffron party hopes to rely on the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and the Congress’ support of Palestine and branding of Israel as a ‘terror’ nation to work in their favour.

“We are against global terrorism, and India is one of the biggest victims. We oppose the communal appeasement politics of the state government. Both the CPI(M) and the Congress are doing exactly the same job where they wanted to openly endorse the terror group Hamas. This is extremely dangerous. The people of Kerala are intelligent enough to differentiate which is terror and which is not. The minority community especially will ally with the BJP on this matter”, said BJP leader Sandeep Warrier to The New Indian.

BJP leaders have also decided to reach out to the Christian community during Christmas where its district-level leaders will visit Christian households to greet them during the auspicious occasion.

Former MLA’s party to join the NDA

The Kerala Janapaksham (Secular), led by former MLA P C George, has announced that it will ally with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The decision was made during a state committee meeting of the KJ(S) held in Kottayam on Saturday.

The unanimous decision holds great significance, especially considering the speculation surrounding George’s intention to contest from the Pathanamthitta parliamentary constituency in the upcoming elections.

George, known for his ability to stoke discontent within the Christian community towards the political Islam movement, aims to capitalise on the dissatisfaction of the Catholic Church and the Christian community as a whole towards both the Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) and the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) failure to address their concerns.
