On I-Day, Mamata Dances To Folk Tunes

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s unrestrained exuberance stepped to the fore as she got up from her seat, climbed down the stairs, and joined hands with the performing folk artists, while matching their steps with the reverberating drum beats.

It all happened during the celebrations of Independence Day on the Red Road, Kolkata, on Monday. After breaking into a brief jig, the CM went back to her seat.

Such casual moves of the CM are quite popular in Bengal – be it distributing ‘phuchkas’ (golgappas) or dancing with the artists.

For the last two years, the Red Road remained shut to the public following Covid-19 protocols. However, this year it was opened.

India celebrated its 75th Independence year on Monday and ushered in a new beginning. ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign generated keen interest among the Indians, mostly youths, across the nation.
