Not going to arrest Arvind Kejriwal today: ED sources to The New Indian

NEW DELHI: Top officials of Enforcement Directorate (ED) have told The New Indian that the law agency won’t be arresting Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday. This comes amid increased police deployment outside Delhi CM’s residence since morning.

TNI spoke to top sources in ED who clarified that no such arrests or raids are planned for Thursday. They also stated that the law enforcement agency will be taking legal opinion on his response.

The enforcement agency had earlier issued three summons to the AAP chief which he declined to answer. TNI also got to know that the ED is planning to send him a fourth summon to join the probe in the liquor scam case.

Meanwhile, they also said that while they are not going to Kejriwal’s house, they might first approach the court rather than taking this step.

Outside the residence of Kejriwal, an additional enclosure has been set up for the media, which isn’t a regular feature on normal days. Earlier, both routes leading to the CM’s residence were closed, but now, the media has been granted permission to access his residence.

On Wednesday night, Delhi cabinet minister and AAP leader Atishi shared on X (formely Twitter) that there were reports suggesting an upcoming ED raid at Kejriwal’s residence the next morning, possibly leading to an arrest. She wrote, “News coming in that ED is going to raid Arvind Kejriwal’s residence tmrw morning. Arrest likely.”

Nonetheless, a senior Delhi Police officer clarified that the heightened security was in response to managing media personnel, following the AAP’s assertion of a potential raid at the CM’s residence.
