JAIPUR/NEW DELHI: A day after the brutal daylight murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal Telli, the Rajasthan government formed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder case by the two Muslim youths.

The district administration, meanwhile, maintained that the law and order situation in Udaipur was under control even as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the probe on the order of the Union ministry of home affairs.

Speaking to the media earlier in the day, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “We have formed the SIT to probe the reason and conspiracy behind such gruesome murder.”

The Chief Minister said that the Udaipur incident is very gruesome and the SIT has started working since last night.

He said, “And the information that is coming, what was the plan of the person who committed the murder, what was the conspiracy, with whom they have links, is there any such organisation – national and international, to which there is a link, all those things will be revealed.”

Gehlot also said that the Rajasthan government is taking the murder incident seriously as the case is not a minor one and cannot happen as long as it is not linked to something which is such a radical element at the international or national level.

Meanwhile, speaking to The New Indian, Udaipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Kumar said, “The law and order condition in the city is under control.”

Even Udaipur District Magistrate Tara Chand Meena told The New Indian that the situation in the city was peaceful.

When asked how many people gathered in his final rites, the SP said that over 3,000 people participated in his funeral.

To another question, if the police got any leads from the two arrested accused, he said, “The SIT has taken over the probe and they are questioning the arrested accused. Thus, we have no details of the investigation so far.”

The two accused, who killed Kanhaiya Lal Teli and shot the entire incident on camera and later released it on social media with their confession while holding the weapon used in the crime, were arrested from the Rajsamand area of the state.

However, police officials said that the post mortem report of Telli showed that he suffered 26 injuries on his body in the barbaric attack with over 5 to 7 injuries near his neck.

The Rajasthan government has also announced to give out-of-turn promotions to the police officers who arrested Mohammed Rafiq and Abdul Jabbar.

The Rajasthan government has snapped the internet services in the city and also deployed additional forces to maintain law and order.

The administration has imposed a curfew in several parts of the city.
