NIA seizes 8 high-value properties linked to terror accused in South Kashmir

NEW DELHI: In a significant move, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has seized eight properties valued at crores of rupees belonging to two individuals accused of being involved in the 2018 Srinagar attack on police officers that led to the release of Pakistani LeT terrorist Naveed Jatt.

The attached properties, five owned by accused Mohd Shafi Wani and three by Mohd Tikka Khan, both residents of Singoo Narbal, Pulwama, were confiscated under Section 33 (1) of the UA (P) Act, 1967. This action was taken in accordance with recent orders from the NIA Special Court in Jammu.

The case dates back to February 6, 2018, when two J&K Police personnel were killed during a gunfire incident while escorting LeT terrorist Naveed Jatt to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for a medical examination.

Jatt, a Pakistani terrorist, was forcibly released in the attack orchestrated by the two accused, under the command of their LeT leaders based in Pakistan. Jatt was later killed in a 2018 encounter with security forces.

The attached immovable properties of Mohd Shafi Wani and Mohd Tikka Khan, identified as overground workers of LeT, include various plots of land, with Shafi’s residential house also being seized.

The two accused were apprehended from their Pulwama residences on February 8, 2018, while in possession of weapons. They were charged on August 3, 2018, and are currently facing trial under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code before the NIA Special Court in Jammu.
