NIA Arrests Key Accused In Sunjwan Terror Attack Case

NEW DELHI: Almost a month after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the probe into the Jammu and Kashmir’s Sunjwan terrorist attack case on a CISF envoy, the agency on Thursday said that it has arrested a key accused Abid Ahmad Mir, an overground worker (OGW) of banned terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

An NIA spokesperson here said that the agency arrested Mir, a resident of J&K’s Pulwama, on Wednesday.

The official said that during the probe it was revealed that Mir is an OGW of JeM and was a close associate of arrested accused Bilal Ahmed Wagay.

“Mir was also in touch with Pakistan based handlers of JeM. He knowingly and voluntarily had extended support to the other co-accused persons in the commission of the instant crime,” the NIA official said.

The case pertains to indiscriminate firing upon the security personnel, during a joint search operation in the area of Sunjwan in Jammu by unknown terrorists in which one ASI of CISF was killed and several others were injured.

The security forces retaliated against the attack and killed the two terrorists on the spot.

A case was registered in Bahu Fort police station in Jammu on April 22 and the NIA took over the probe on April 26.
