Viral video: NCC condemns brutal beating of cadets, case registered

THANE: In a shocking incident that came to light on August 3, a distressing video showing NCC cadets being brutally beaten with sticks at Joshi Bedekar College in Thane went viral on social media. The video depicts around 8-10 cadets, on their knees in a puddle amid rainfall, while a man repeatedly strikes them with a stick from behind. The incident has sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters.

The NCC, in response to the video, swiftly condemned the appalling act, stating that it is in no way reflective of their training methods. They expressed deep concern that such violent behavior was associated with an NCC cadet, emphasizing that the act had no place in the values and military ethos they instill in their trainees. The student allegedly responsible for the incident, identified as an ex-cadet, has been suspended by the college.

The issue was raised in the state assembly by Leader of Opposition, Vijay Wadettiwar, following which Speaker Rahul Narvekar directed the government to take prompt action on the matter. Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, assured the house that stringent action would be taken against the culprits to ensure justice is served.

Former Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan, also weighed in, demanding action against the responsible person under the anti-ragging law, further highlighting the gravity of the incident and the need for accountability.

Despite the video going viral and widespread outrage, no complainants have come forward to date. It is the Thane Police who have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a Non-Cognizable (NC) offense against the accused. The suspect, a 20-year-old individual from Bhandup, has been booked under section 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of students within educational institutions and the need for stringent measures to prevent such acts of violence and abuse. The authorities are now under increased pressure to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that justice prevails for the victims.
