Gangster Goldy Brar, who masterminded the daylight murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May this year, has been detained in the United States, chief minister Bhagwant Mann informed on Friday.

Brar, who hails from Sri Muktsar Sahib, recently moved to the US from Canada where had been living on a student visa since 2017. He is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang that has given death threats to actor Salman Khan.

“Being the head of a state, I can confirm that Goldy Brar has been detained in the US,” Punjab CM Mann told a press conference in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Minutes after the gruesome killing of Moosewala in Mansa district, Goldy took responsibility in a Facebook post.

In June, the International Police or INTERPOL issued a red corner notice (RCN) against gangster Brar, saying he was accused of “murder, criminal conspiracy and supply of illegal firearms, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy supply of illegal firearms”.

Meanwhile, reports claimed Goldy was detained in California around November 20 but the government of India is yet to receive any official confirmation.

The gangster is also accused of the murder of a follower of Ram Rahim-led Dera Sacha Sauda.

28-year-old Subhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in his car near his village in Mansa district on May 29, a day after the Punjab government cut down his security cover.

The development comes days after Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh demanded the Central government to declare a reward of ₹2 crores on any information leading to the arrest of Goldy Brar. He had announced to give away the reward money himself if the government was not willing.

In September, the director general of police (DGP) of Punjab said that 23 criminals involved in Moosewala’s murder were arrested from different parts of the country and two more were neutralized in an encounter.
