Modi congratulates Putin, pledges stronger India-Russia ties

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to President Vladimir Putin on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation. In a telephone conversation today, PM Modi conveyed his best wishes for peace, progress, and prosperity to the friendly people of Russia.

Both leaders agreed to intensify efforts to further bolster the Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia in the coming years. During the call, they reviewed the progress in various areas of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

In particular, the leaders discussed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, with PM Modi reaffirming India’s consistent stance in favour of dialogue and diplomacy as the means to resolve the crisis. Both nations share a longstanding history of cooperation and mutual respect, underpinned by shared values and interests.

Meanwhile, China too congratulated Putin, emphasizing the strategic partnership between the two nations. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his warm congratulations and reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening its special relationship with Russia. However, Western powers have denounced the election as illegitimate, citing repressive conditions and the absence of credible opposition. Despite these criticisms, President Putin secured a fifth term in office with 87.28 percent of the votes.
