MM Keeravani makes history, wins first Golden Globe for RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’

Telugu film RRR won its first Golden Globe on Wednesday for Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu‘. Music composer MM Keeravani accepted the award on stage.  Music sensations like Taylor Swift and Rihanna were among the singers nominated in the category presented by Hollywood star Jenna Ortega.

As a gesture of gratitude, the composer thanked Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, his fellow nominees. Keeravani went on to say that the award actually belonged to filmmaker SS Rajamouli who he called his ‘brother’.

The win marks the first major Hollywood award for RRR. In addition to its ‘best of the year’ wins, it has also received several nominations for awards from critics’ organizations across the country.

Rajamouli, who is dressed in an Indian outfit, was delighted at the Golden Globe win. Movie stars, Jr NTR and Ram Charan, were also in attendance.

While accepting the award, Keeravani thanked Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and said he was overwhelmed with the honor. He also thanked his wife, line producer MM Srivalli, who was also present on the occasion. The composer said, “This award actually belongs to someone else, not me. I’m going to repeat the tradition. The award belongs to my brother and the writer of the movie, SS Rajamouli.”

Keeravani also thanked everyone who worked to make the song a global hit, including his fellow nominees Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. He also singled out the leads who “danced with all the stamina for the song”.

The official handle for the film also shared the film’s win with a photograph of the composer and the caption, “LEGENDARYYYYYY MM KEERAVAANI!!” Fans and well wishers sent their congratulatory messages to the winners and film crew in the comments. A twitter user wrote, “When the World itself got Naatufied….This Prize is a Small Gift to u by Nature…. Academy Award is Waiting for u Sir….Congratulations @MMkeeravaani Sir.
