NEW DELHI: In a landmark welfare initiative, the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has announced a major expansion of Punjab’s popular ‘Atta-Dal’ scheme, transforming it into a ‘Complete Ration Package’ with home delivery for 1.42 crore beneficiaries across the state.

The upgraded scheme, described as a ‘Ration Revolution’, aims to bring prosperity to every doorstep, ensuring that no family in Punjab struggles for basic kitchen essentials. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said this initiative reflects the AAP government’s model of governance — where public money is spent for the public’s welfare.

From Atta-Dal to a Complete Kitchen Package

Under the revamped plan, beneficiaries will not only continue to receive free wheat but will also get a comprehensive ration kit containing 2 kg pulses, 2 kg sugar, 1 kg tea leaves, 1 liter mustard oil, and 200 grams turmeric — all free of cost.

This package, which guarantees both nutrition and savings for low-income families, is being prepared for full implementation from April 2026.

Home Delivery for 1.42 Crore People

For the first time in Punjab’s history, ration will be delivered directly to beneficiaries’ homes, eliminating the need for long queues at fair price shops. The scheme will cover 1.42 crore citizens under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), with 72,500 metric tons of ration to be distributed every month.

Chief Minister Mann said, “No family in Punjab should worry about basic needs. Electricity is free, bus travel for women is free, and now ration will reach your doorstep — this is our guarantee.”

Quarterly Distribution, Systematic Implementation

To ensure transparency and regularity, the ration packages will be distributed four times a year — in April, June, October, and December. Out of Punjab’s 65 lakh families, about 40 lakh will be eligible under this expanded coverage.

Additionally, three dozen flour mills have been identified to process wheat to ensure quality and timely delivery.

A Model of Welfare and Governance

The Mann government’s welfare expenditure highlights its focus on equitable growth — ₹22,000 crore is being spent on 300 units of free electricity, while ₹600 crore has been allocated for free bus travel for women.

This new ‘Complete Ration Package’ adds another milestone to the government’s commitment to reducing the financial burden on common households.

‘Prosperity at Every Doorstep’

With this initiative, Punjab is setting a new benchmark in welfare delivery. The Mann government’s holistic approach — combining social equity, digital transparency, and doorstep service — ensures that the state’s most vulnerable citizens receive support with dignity.

As CM Mann puts it, “When governance is honest, welfare becomes a right, not a favor.”
