Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday inaugurated India’s first Tesla Experience Centre in Mumbai, marking a historic moment for the state’s push toward green mobility and global tech collaboration.

The sleek, solar-powered facility — located in the heart of BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) — is Tesla’s first flagship retail space in India. Designed to provide potential buyers and enthusiasts an immersive introduction to Tesla’s range of electric vehicles (EVs), the Experience Centre also includes virtual test drives, a showcase of Tesla’s Autopilot interface, and exhibits on clean energy solutions like Tesla Powerwall and solar roof tiles.

Speaking at the inauguration, CM Fadnavis said:

“This is not just an automotive showroom; this is a launchpad for Maharashtra’s green tech future. Tesla’s arrival is a powerful endorsement of our state’s infrastructure, policy readiness, and skilled workforce.”

The event saw participation from key dignitaries including Isabel Fan, Tesla’s Senior Regional Director (Asia-Pacific), who handed over a detailed presentation to the CM on Tesla’s India roadmap — which includes plans for a GigaService Centre, an R&D lab, and eventually, a localised production unit if government terms align.

Key Highlights:

  • Tesla to roll out its Model 3 and Model Y for initial sales in Mumbai and Pune by Q4 2025.
  • Maharashtra to offer green registration waivers, and extend EV subsidy benefits to Tesla buyers.
  • Tesla Superchargers to be deployed along Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Mumbai-Nashik corridor by early 2026.

The inauguration comes after months of backchannel negotiations between Tesla officials and the Maharashtra government, which were fast-tracked following the Centre’s approval of Tesla’s entry under the new “EV Fast-Track Investment” window.
