NEW DELHI: For the past 40 years, West Delhiโs Punjabi Bagh-based Maharaja Agrasen Hospital Charitable Trust has been a beacon of hope for patients. The trust recently held elections, in which social activist Meena Gupta was elected as its new president.
The New Indian has learned that the trust, which runs five hospitals across the NCR, plans to establish a world-class Medical University and College for 700 MBBS students. It already operates a Nursing College in Bahadurgarh with a capacity of around 600 students.
Meena Gupta won the presidential seat with 915 votes, defeating her opponent who secured 890 votes. Her three-year tenure will focus on elevating the hospital to new heights.
Speaking to The New Indian, Gupta revealed that the trust is working on a 23-story automated car parking system with five blocks, expected to be completed within three yearsโlikely before her term ends.
The trust currently runs hospitals in Dwarka, East Punjabi Bagh (Mata Narayani Devi), Najafgarh (under construction), Bahadurgarh (Haryana), and a dedicated Cancer Hospital.
The Punjabi Bagh hospital has 340 operational beds, which can expand to 375 during emergencies. Another building with the same capacity is under construction, and once completed, the hospital will have a total of 550 beds.
A Legacy of Service:
Meena Gupta, a well-known social worker, follows in the footsteps of her husband, Subhash Gupta, who previously served as the trustโs president and remains active in its affairs.
The hospital is renowned for its charitable work, spending โน60 crore annually on treating underprivileged patients. It ranks among Delhiโs top 10 hospitals and is the No. 1 charitable hospital in the capital.
Future Projects: Medical University & College:
Virender Garg, the hospitalโs PR representative, shared that the trust plans to open a Medical University in Bahadurgarh for 500 MBBS students, alongside its existing 350-bed hospital.
The Maharaja Agrasen Nursing College in Bahadurgarh, running successfully for six years, is already a top choice for students in Haryana.
โThe medical college will start next year, initially admitting 150 students, later expanding to 700. Our nursing college already has 600 students, and we plan to introduce more courses soon,โ Garg said, emphasizing their vision for a world-class medical institution in Haryana.
