NEW DELHI: The first innings of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s brought high drama, milestones, and a closely fought contest. England, choosing to bat first, posted a total of 387 runs in 109.3 overs. Joe Root played a composed and patient innings, scoring 104 runs off 198 balls, with nine boundaries. It was his 37th Test century and came at a crucial moment when England needed stability.

Jamie Smith added a useful 51 off 76 balls, while Brydon Carse provided a counter-attacking boost lower down the order with 56 off just 63 balls, hitting seven fours and a six. At one point, England were struggling at 194 for 5, but their lower order added over 120 runs to help them recover and post a competitive score.

India’s bowling effort was led by Jasprit Bumrah, who took 5 wickets for 74 runs in 24.3 overs, registering his first five-wicket haul at Lord’s. Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj supported well with two wickets each, while Mukesh Kumar took one but was a bit expensive.

DAY 2

In response, India ended Day 2 on 145 for 3 in 45 overs. The innings began with early trouble as Yashasvi Jaiswal was bowled for 6 by a 93.3 mph delivery from Jofra Archer. Soon after, Shubman Gill was dismissed for 22, edging one to second slip off Chris Woakes. Rajat Patidar played some confident strokes to make 39 off 54 balls before falling to a loose shot.

KL Rahul anchored the innings, remaining unbeaten on 53 from 119 balls, showing calmness and control. He struck seven boundaries and dealt well with England’s pace under fading light. Ravindra Jadeja was not out on 14 at the close. India trail by 242 runs, and with a deep batting line-up, will look to close the gap on Day 3.
