Lakhimpur Kheri: UP SIT Seeks Attempt To Murder Charge On Ajay Mishr’s Son, 12 Accused

Lakhimpur Kheri Case: the new indian exclusive

LUCKNOW: Months after the October 3 Lakhimpur Kheri incident, in which the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Ajay Mishr Teni’s son, Ashish Mishr, has been accused of allegedly mowing down four farmers and a journalist, the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has approached the court seeking to invoke four more criminal charges, including the attempt to murder and under the Arms Act, against the 13 accused arrested.

Ashish Mishr is among the 13 arrested in connection with the case.

The SIT investigating officer Vidhyaram Diwakar filed an application in the CJM’s court last week for addition of new sections in the warrant, replacing sections 279, 338 and 304A of the IPC. In his application, the investigating officer pointed out that the incident was “well-planned and a deliberate act”, and not one of negligence or callousness.

He also requested for the addition of Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code after replacing sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 338 (Whoever causes grievous hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of the IPC.

Meanwhile there has been no let up in the pressure by the opposition parties demanding the removal of Ajay Mishr from the cabinet. Once again, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at the government on social media and demanded Ajay Mishr Teni be removed.

In a tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi said, “(Prime Minister Narendra) Modiji, time to apologise has once again come. But before that, remove the father of the accused from the post of Minister. Truth is before everyone.”

On October 3, at least eight people, including four farmers died after an SUV belonging to Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish Mishr mowed them down. A local journalist Raman Kashyap was also killed in the incident. In the violence that ensued, the angry crowd killed three BJP workers.

The SIT has so far arrested Ashish Mishr, Luvkush, Ashish Pandey, Shekhar Bharti, Ankit Das, Latif, Sishupal, Nandan Singh, Satyam Tripathi, Sumit Jaiswal, Dharmendra Banjara, Rinku Rana and Ullas Trivedi. They are currently lodged at the Lakhimpur Kheri district jail.
