SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened an urgent review on Wednesday, bringing together Deputy Commissioners from all border regions through video link to assess fallout from Pakistan’s heavy cross-border bombardment.
According to an official release, the session focused on evaluating current conditions and readiness levels, particularly in areas near the Line of Control (LoC) and the international boundary, where tensions have sharply escalated.
The virtual meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir, senior officers from Food and Civil Supplies, Health and Medical Education departments, along with Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Samba, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora.

The Chief Minister announced the immediate sanctioning of emergency funds — ₹5 crore for each border district and ₹2 crore for the others — empowering local administrators to meet urgent needs. He emphasized that priority must be given to frontline areas when allocating resources.
Underscoring the urgent need to protect civilians, Abdullah called for the rapid construction of public shelters and underground bunkers, preparation of evacuation blueprints, and ensuring food stocks are adequate for affected populations.
On the medical front, the Chief Minister instructed the health department to guarantee that hospitals, especially in high-risk zones, are fully stocked with essential medicines, doctors, paramedics, and blood supplies. He further directed that ambulances be positioned close to impacted districts so that the wounded can be swiftly transported for treatment.
Expressing sorrow over civilian deaths and injuries along the LoC, Abdullah urged all Deputy Commissioners to extend full support to grieving and affected families.
The administration also received directives to promptly fill long-pending vacancies of key officers such as Tehsildars, ensuring the government’s local machinery remains operational and responsive to the evolving crisis.
Finally, Abdullah urged all government officials to proactively dispel false narratives and prevent the spread of rumors, asking citizens to trust only verified, official updates for accurate information.
