Pannun Case: Jaishankar reacts to Garcetti's statement -Asserts India's National Security Interests

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar has responded to recent comments made by US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, regarding the alleged assassination plot targeting Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Jaishankar emphasized that India’s investigation into the matter is driven by its national security interests. “We are investigating this because we believe our national security interests are involved,” he stated.
In an interview, Garcetti referred to a “red line” that should not be crossed, stressing that no government or government employee should be implicated in the assassination attempt of a foreign national.
Jaishankar underscored that India’s position on the issue is rooted in the belief that their national security interests are at stake, and hence, they are committed to conducting a thorough investigation. He indicated that further statements will be made as significant developments occur in the investigation.
Jaishankar’s response follows Garcetti’s remarks where he praised India for its cooperation in the joint investigation and expressed appreciation for the establishment of a commission to probe the murder plot. Garcetti highlighted the importance of respecting the sovereignty of nations and condemned any involvement of government officials in such criminal activities.
The ongoing investigation into the alleged assassination plot underscores the importance of collaboration between India and the United States in addressing transnational threats and safeguarding mutual interests.
As both nations continue to work closely to uncover the truth behind the plot, the bilateral relationship remains robust and resilient in the face of emerging challenges.
